On my way to s
ee my friends to soak up some sunshine after work, I stopped to buy some sort of quick sandwich at M&S. Given it was after 6pm there wasn’t much on offer and I was ready to just fill a hungry gap. But I found their brown rice sushi selection for £2.20 with a free still/sparkling water.
Easy.
4 pieces of vegetable maki, a prawn nigiri and a sesame one.
Brown rice tastes better than any shop bought white rice sushi – always go for brown rice, pasta or bread in ANY food choice. Carbs that have their fibre stripped away then act as simple carbohydrates do in the body, i.e. they are digested rapidly, which causes a spike in blood sugar followed by a crash. They are essentially empty calories and even lead to the development of diabetes.
Back to maki. With the soy sauce this comes to 0.8 bites and is really filling. It should be as the dish is mainly all carbs (74%) which is not the best balance of proteins and veg. Extra edamame and free water!
