If you watched my intro video, I promised to bring you the truth behind a Starbucks latte. However cheesy that sounded, I’ve got it if you want it?
Simple – like many things in life, they taste amazing but are not ideal. All standard Starbucks lattes are made with whole milk. This is already a bite and would be enough for lunch alone! So, we knock off a quarter of a bite by Going-Skinny (skimmed milk) and this tastes just the same in my opinion. But in terms of the actual coffee choice, I had a small rethink. If you’re like me, and you get a coffee for the naughty caffeine hit but like the milky taste of a latte or cappuccino then this won’t hurt too much. Just go Americano! You will be guilt free and pepped up. Common sense tells us that swapping the milk for water will lessen the bites, but it can also reduce that full bloated feeling we all get from the creaminess.
The halfway house health option is the Americano Misto – like a latte but foamless, half steamed milk and half hot water – and well under half a bite. (Remember to always Go-Skinny!) I add a ‘Perfect Oatmeal’ for a hot meal and this takes me just over a bite. Plus, it’s the best oatmeal in town and a brilliant and filling healthy option.
So, by all means add the skimmed milk. But, even better is an Americano with a dash of milk which leaves you free to have a Starbucks spinach, roasted tomato, feta and egg wrap at just over a bite! Or have this Americano with the Oatmeal and optional fruit to add to 5-a-day and bring you to a bite and a half.
Next time you hop into Starbucks, try a new automatic response. So when the barrister asks ‘Can I help?’ Answer is – they probably can.
